Workshop: Women on the Water: Strategies to Overcome Gender-Based Challenges
Helen Stewart is a Hydrographer, a member of the Hydrographic Society of the USA (THSOA), and a current employee of Fugro USA. She has over twenty years of experience in marine spatial science, including hydrographic surveying for offshore wind projects. In 2021, Helen began working with THSOA and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) on the IHO’s Empowering Women in Hydrography Project. She has expanded that work within Fugro and with other professional societies besides THSOA since then, with a particular focus on women’s safety at sea and on identifying and correcting structural workplace inequities that drive women out of the professional workforce and away from leadership positions. Helen was a finalist for the 2022 IPF Ventus awards for her work in women’s safety at sea. Outside of her professional activities, Helen is an artist, a gardener, a touring cyclist, and a couture seamstress. She lives in Houston, Texas, and wants to remind everyone that “Y’all means ALL.”
