Biography

Workshop: Better Together: Offshore Wind Training Partnership Case Studies

Dan Ortega is the North America Representative for Global Wind Organisation (GWO). GWO is a non-profit group of wind turbine owners, manufacturers, and service providers committed to the creation and adoption of standardized safety, rescue, and technical training tailored to the unique risks faced by onshore and offshore wind turbine technicians.

Dan joined GWO in July 2021 following fifteen years with Vestas where he was most recently the Senior Technical & Safety Training Manager at the company’s 32,500-sqft training center in Portland, Oregon. Prior to leading the training program in the Vestas-Americas region, Dan was a Service Site Manager overseeing multiple wind farms in Washington, Oregon, Tennessee, and Hawaii. Before working in the wind industry Dan served for nine years in the US Navy as an enlisted submarine nuclear plant operator. Dan has a BA in Management & Ethics from Multnomah University, and he currently resides near Portland, OR with his wife and two children.

In his role with GWO, Dan supports member companies in North American who are seeking to grow the adoption of standardized training across the region. Current GWO member companies in North America include: Acciona, Avangrid Renewables, ENEL Green Power, Enercon, Equinor, GE Renewable Energy, Nordex, Ørsted, RWE Renewables, Siemens-Gamesa Renewable Energy, and Vestas. Dan also supports a pipeline of almost a hundred community colleges, maritime academies, and other training providers from across North America who are currently certified or seeking certification to provide GWO training
