Biography

Workshop: Offshore Floating Wind: Accessing the Vast Resources of the High Seas

James F. Manwell is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UMass Amherst and the Founding Director of the University’s Wind Energy Center. Professor Manwell has been working in the field of wind energy for more than thirty-five years. He worked with the International Energy Agency’s wind energy program on various R&D activities and is a member of IEC working groups developing design standards for offshore wind turbines. He is the lead author of Wind Energy Explained: Theory, Design, and Application and the author of “Offshore Wind Energy: Technology Trends, Challenges, and Risks,” in the Encyclopedia of Sustainability Science and Technology.
