Ventus Gala

2021 Award Winners

Oceantic Network (formerly known as the Business Network for Offshore Wind) hosted the inaugural Ventus Gala in November, 2021 in Washington, D.C. to bring the industry together and honor the trailblazing people, companies, organizations, and work ushering in the global adoption of offshore wind power. The Ventus Gala is the Network’s highest level of professional recognition and brought in submissions representing the entire supply chain from large OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers to multi-generational family businesses. Congratulations to the 2021 winners.

Viterna Award for Engineering Excellence

Viterna Award for Engineering Excellence

Winner: Larry Viterna
The Viterna Award for Engineering Excellence recognizes excellence in engineering
that advances the offshore wind energy industry. Given to an individual or team, it is
named after NASA scientist Larry Viterna who, with fellow scientist Bob Corrigan,
developed the Viterna Method, which is the most widely used method to predict wind
turbine performance and increase the efficiency of turbine output. In its inaugural
year we honored Mr. Viterna for his important contributions to the offshore wind industry.

Heronemus Award for Outstanding Achievement in Offshore Wind

Winner: William Edward Heronemus
The Heronemus Award for Outstanding Achievement in Offshore Wind honors
an individual who has contributed significantly to the expansion of offshore wind energy.
Named in honor of William Edward Heronemus (1920 – 2002), the “father of modern
wind power”, it recognizes an individual’s leadership, dedication, and unwavering
perseverance to accelerate the offshore wind industry. It its inaugural year, we
posthumously honored Mr. Heronemus.
