John Begala joined the Business Network for Offshore Wind in 2022 and serves as the vice president for Federal and State Policy. In his role, he helps coordinate the Network’s relationships with top federal and state government officials to facilitate the development of a domestic supply chain for the offshore wind industry.
Prior to joining the Network, John served four years in the Office of Virginia Governor, Ralph Northam, most recently as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Trade. As Assistant Secretary, John oversaw budget development, legislative and regulatory proposals, and staffing decisions for the Virginia Departments of Energy, Small Business and Supplier Diversity, Labor and Industry, and the Virginia Tourism Corporation. John previously served as Legislative Advisor to Governor Northam, where he helped strengthen the Administration’s relationships with newly-elected General Assembly members. In addition, John managed intergovernmental communications during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
John is a graduate of the College of William & Mary where he earned a B.A. in Government.
John lives in Richmond with a sweet, rambunctious puppy named Bonny. He is an avid lover of remote and wild places and even worked as a wilderness fishing guide in Alaska.
