Workshop: A Deep Dive into U.S. Offshore Wind Operations & Maintenance Challenges (Part 2)
Dr. Shawn Sheng is a senior research engineer at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and a key member of the drivetrain reliability (formerly gearbox reliability) research team. Currently, he leads wind turbine gearbox reliability database, condition monitoring, wind plant operations & maintenance (O&M), including offshore, research and actively involved in wind energy digitalization work at NREL. Shawn has been engaged with the industry through his research and various professional organizations such as American Clean Power association and Energy Systems Integration Group. He is an active advocate for conducting advanced research, bridging gaps between academia and industry, and transforming wind O&M through R&D. Shawn has a broad range of research interests: 1) sensing, 2) signal processing, 3) machine learning, and 4) hybrid data and physics domain modeling approaches. He is a member of ASME and STLE. His work has been published in various journals, conference proceedings, book chapters, and technical reports.
