Workshop: Modern Manufacturing: Using New Technologies to Reduce Offshore Wind Construction Costs

Doug Fairchild earned BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Welding Engineering and Materials Science from The Ohio State University. He joined Exxon in 1982 and retired in 2020 as ExxonMobil’s top Metallurgical and Welding engineer. Doug has world renowned expertise in physical and mechanical metallurgy, fracture mechanics, failure analysis and electron microscopy. For the majority of his career, Doug conducted research on advanced high strength steels and related fabrication technologies including novel welding methods. His work has applications to offshore structures, pipelines, pressure vessels, ships, and liquefied natural gas facilities. Doug work includes more than sixty publications and twelve patents.
