Tour | Ship to Sea: How Labor Unions are Training the Maryland Offshore Wind Workforce

Learn how labor organizations are preparing the local workforce for jobs in offshore wind.

This full day tour offers participants an in-depth look at four local labor unions and what they are doing to prepare and train the local workforce for jobs in the offshore wind industry. The first stop is at the Seafarers Union. Attendees will tour the simulator building and walk through tugboat, main bridge ship, and engine room simulation. This stop also includes a tour of the vocation shop and media center. After lunch, visit Ironworkers Local 5 and learn about their apprenticeship program and Global Wind Organisation (GWO) basic safety training.

Following that, visit the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). Staff will demonstrate the hands-on learning that apprentices and journey workers undertake for blasting and painting and will also highlight how they utilize virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) tools in their training. End the day with a tour of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Participants will learn about and meet students in the Baltimore Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JACT) program.

Please note that separate registration is required for tours. When you register for 2023 IPF, you will be asked if you would like to add tours to your itinerary.
