Regional Update Breakfast | Gulf of Mexico: Uniquely Positioned for Offshore Wind Success
The increasing interest in Gulf of Mexico’s status as “next-in-line” for offshore wind development in the U.S. is not a surprise. The Gulf is uniquely positioned for offshore wind, with existing infrastructure, decades of offshore processes from oil and gas, strong climate plan commitments from states like Louisiana, significant regional supply chains, one of the most expansive ports and logistics networks, and pioneering environmental and deconfliction modeling. These advantages allowed for quick assessment of Wind Energy9 Areas (WEAs) and have put the Gulf at the top of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s BOEM) list for lease sales. This panel will discuss Gulf advantages including supply chain and infrastructure, research and academic partnerships, innovations to de-risk and optimize development in the region, and insights from developers currently evaluating opportunities.
