BALTIMORE – The Oceantic Network today opened applications for its Rising Star: Offshore Wind Student Scholarship, created to support the next generation of offshore wind leaders. As the industry continues to expand to meet the demand for utility-scale clean energy, it needs capable individuals across industry sectors and skillsets. The scholarship is awarded annually to graduating seniors interested in pursuing a career in the growing offshore wind industry.
“The Network is committed to the success of the offshore wind industry and that includes building up the next wave workforce,” said Liz Burdock, CEO of Oceantic Network. “Creating a successful industry and supply chain requires fostering the varied skillsets needed to support offshore wind as it grows to scale. Through this scholarship, the Network aims to engage students early in their college careers by providing support as they pursue a career in offshore wind.”
Each year the Network provides $5,000 scholarships, which are funded through proceeds of its Ventus Gala as well as through donations from industry supporters, which must be used toward tuition fees. Applicants must be high school students currently in their senior year intending to enroll full-time in a two- or four-year college or university beginning the following academic year. All applicants will be judged by academic industry leaders based on their interest in pursuing a career in offshore wind as well as their academic achievement and financial need.
“The future is bright for the U.S. offshore wind industry,” added Burdock. “The Rising Star: Offshore Wind Scholarship will help to create talented professionals who are excited and engaged in an industry that helps build communities, grow businesses, and address the challenges of climate change.”
Scholarship applications are being accepted now through April 24. Scholarship winners will be announced in early May. Companies interested in donating to the scholarship fund can find more information online.
