U.S. offshore wind industry bolstered by billions in new renewable energy investments
BALTIMORE — In his second State of the Union address, President Biden touted the success of record-breaking investments in growing the U.S. economy, creating well-paying jobs, and accelerating the country’s clean energy transition. The Business Network for Offshore Wind, the leading non-profit representing more than 500 businesses working to accelerate offshore wind development and build a dedicated manufacturing supply chain in the United States, applauded the Biden-Harris administration’s leadership on rapidly scaling American clean energy solutions like offshore wind. The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which invested a record-breaking $369 billion in clean energy initiatives and lifted the offshore wind lease moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Coast, will have a consequential impact in building a resilient domestic supply chain and securing market confidence in American offshore wind.
The following statement can be attributed to Liz Burdock, President and CEO of Business Network for Offshore Wind:
“In his State of the Union address, President Biden reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to growing our clean energy economy and rightly emphasized the ways that the Inflation Reduction Act is already delivering real-world results. The infusion of new investments coupled with actions that bring much-need policy certainty to the fast-growing American offshore wind industry continues to spur offshore wind development up and down our coasts. But our work is far from finished and we have no time to lose—there is an urgent need for increased coordination, workforce training, and collaborative transmission planning.
“As we reflect on ten years of advocating for American businesses across the offshore wind supply chain, we rest easy knowing that President Biden continues to fight tirelessly for offshore wind. We look forward to working with Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle and the White House to make our industry more competitive and achieve supply chain resilience so we can secure an energy-independent future here at home.”
