FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Statement from Liz Burdock, CEO & President, Business Network for Offshore Wind
“We are extremely excited to see Ørsted take the next step forward in offshore wind technology and select the GE Haliade-X 12 megawatt (MW) turbine for its first commercial deployment in the Ocean Wind and Skipjack projects in New Jersey and Maryland,” said Liz Burdock, CEO & President of the Business Network for Offshore Wind. “The first-time use of this new technology on U.S. projects will push the U.S. industry forward and drive the market toward using larger turbines all over the world, and larger turbines mean lower electricity costs for taxpayers and ratepayers.”
“This highly efficient 12MW turbine represents a 50 percent increase in power output per unit over the 8MW turbine which was introduced only three years ago in 2016,” added Burdock, “which demonstrates how quickly turbine technology is evolving. We encourage our U.S. developers to look at using larger turbines on all of their projects to provide similar cost savings to their electricity markets and drive the development of the next-generation supply chain here in the U.S.”
