Today New Jersey Governor Murphy signed into law a clean energy bill that requires the development of 3500MWs by 2030.
Quote from Liz Burdock, Executive Director, Business Network for Offshore Wind:
“We join our many offshore wind energy supporters in New Jersey in thanking Governor Murphy and both houses of the legislature for passing and signing this historic piece of legislation. The Clean Energy Bill sets the ambitious goals of producing 35 percent of New Jersey’s electricity from renewable sources by 2025, and 50 percent by 2030, with a requirement of 3500 megawatts (MW) coming from offshore wind by 2030.
The bill also calls for the establishment of the Offshore Wind Energy Renewable Energy Credit (OREC) program, offshore wind tax credits, and a job training program dedicated to the offshore wind industry. We are excited to see offshore wind moving so quickly in New Jersey, and will work closely with the Board of Public Utilities and other state agencies to meet these game-changing but reachable goals.”
